Glasgow Festivals

Glasgow is highly renowned as a convivial and happening city with its exciting calendar of events. The city's festivals are vibrant, colourful and entertain thousands of visitors to the 'Friendly City' year in year out.

Live Music and Performing Arts are strongly represented in Glasgow's events calendar, particularly the world-renowned Celtic Connections Festival which takes place at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and other popular venues every January.

Summer Festivals feature open-air events such as the vivacious West End Festival, celebrating its 10th anniversary in June 2006. Other summer-time cultural and musical events include The Glasgow International Jazz Festival featuring well-known performers in the blues and jazz arena, The Asian Mela Festival, a multicultural festival featuring high profile choreography and music and the World Pipe Band Competition set in the verdant surroundings of Glasgow Green.

Each September Glasgow hosts The Great Scottish Run, one of the largest racing events in the UK where participants can choose to run the half marathon or the 10K. Contestants pass by Glasgow's open spaces, parks and attractions during the course before the finishing line in Glasgow Green.

The year's festivities end with a bang in December with Glasgow On Ice and Christmas Markets in George Square on the run up to the ultimate grand finale of the year, Hogmanay, as 25,000 revellers descend on George Square and party through the night till the 'wee small hours'.
